How long does a Candida protocol actually take?

Most functional medicine practitioners recommend 6–12 weeks depending on symptom severity and history. The first one to two weeks often involve the most intense adjustment symptoms as yeast organisms are disrupted and release toxins.

What are Candida adjustment symptoms and are they normal?

When yeast organisms are disrupted, they release cell wall fragments and intracellular compounds that can temporarily worsen symptoms - brain fog, fatigue, bloating, skin breakouts, or flu-like feelings. This microbiome adjustment response is common in weeks one and two and typically resolves on its own.

Why use S. boulardii instead of a standard Lactobacillus probiotic?

S. boulardii is a beneficial yeast, not a bacterium.

Berberine inhibits CYP2D6, CYP3A4, CYP2C9 and has significant drug interactions. Because this protocol spans 6-12 weeks, berberine's CYP enzyme inhibition is clinically significant for anyone on prescription medications.
