Vital K+D

Supplementing vitamin D without vitamin K2 can create a problem. Vitamin D increases calcium absorption, but without adequate K2, that calcium may deposit in arteries, kidneys, or other soft tissues rather than in bone. K2 (specifically the MK-7 form) activates osteocalcin (which incorporates calcium into bone matrix) and matrix GLA protein (which inhibits arterial calcification).

With a meal containing fat for best absorption. Vitamins D and K are both fat-soluble and absorb significantly better with dietary fat.

If you are on warfarin or other anticoagulant medications, consult your healthcare provider before taking vitamin K2, as it may affect clotting factor activity. Vitamin D levels should be monitored with periodic blood work (25-OH vitamin D).
